Privacy policy
In short
The files you process are never sent, never received, never stored. The site asks for no account and contains no form. The only data involved is the data any visit to a website entails, the data used for advertising if you accept it, and the data in a message if you choose to write to us.
Your files
Every tool on this site runs entirely in your browser. The file you drop is read by your own device, transformed by it, and the result is handed back to you by it.
It is therefore not transmitted, kept, analyzed or viewed by anyone. There is no retention period to state, no processor and no transfer outside the European Union.
You can check this yourself, without taking our word for it. The method is described on the Why it’s local page.
What your browser keeps, on your device
The site uses your browser’s local storage for three pieces of information at most:
Your theme, light or dark, so you aren’t asked again on every page.
Your language, if you chose one, to serve you the site in that language.
The tools you opened most recently, to offer them to you faster.
This information stays on your device, is sent nowhere and cannot identify you. Clearing the site’s data from your browser erases it.
Your choice about advertising is recorded by Google’s consent window, in a cookie in your browser, precisely so that the ad network and its partners can read it and respect it. You can change it at any time from the Manage my consent page, which reopens that window.
What the host sees
As with any website, the host that serves the pages technically logs the requests it receives, which includes your IP address, the page requested and your browser. These technical logs are used to run and secure the service.
Host: Cloudflare, Inc., a US company acting on behalf of the publisher. Its servers record technical connection logs, including your IP address, for a limited period set by its own policy, available at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy (new tab). No file you process here passes through it.
Legal basis. The publisher’s legitimate interest in running the site and protecting it against abuse.
Transfer outside the European Union. Since Cloudflare may process these logs in the United States, this transfer relies on the European Commission’s adequacy decision of July 10, 2023 on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, supplemented by the standard contractual clauses.
Audience measurement
The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, its host’s measurement tool, to know how many pages are viewed and which ones.
It sets no cookie, reads nothing on your device and builds no visitor identifier. It counts page views without knowing who views them, and cannot recognize you from one visit to the next or follow you from one site to another. That is why it does not ask for your consent, unlike advertising: it writes nothing to your device, so Article 82 of the French Data Protection Act (loi Informatique et Libertés) does not apply to it.
Legal basis. The publisher’s legitimate interest in knowing which pages are useful, without storing anything on your device. The data passes through Cloudflare, under the conditions described above.
Google Analytics was deliberately ruled out, for the opposite reason.
Advertising
The site is free and funded by advertising. The ad network is Google AdSense, operated for Europe by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland.
Where advertising stands. As of this version, the site does not show ads yet. What follows describes what will apply once they are active, except for the loading of the ad network’s code, which already happens.
Loading the code. The ad network’s code is downloaded from Google’s servers when each page opens, before you answer. As with any file downloaded from the Internet, Google receives your IP address, the page address and your browser type at that moment. This code requests no ads and sets no cookies until you have answered the consent window.
What advertising involves. If you accept it, Google and its partner companies store cookies and identifiers in your browser and read what they have stored there. They receive your IP address, the address of the page viewed, your device type and your browser. This information is used to choose the ads shown, limit how often they repeat, measure their display and detect fraud. For personalized advertising, your IP address is also passed to the companies bidding for the ad space.
Legal basis. Storing and reading information on your device relies on your consent, under Article 82 of the French Data Protection Act (loi Informatique et Libertés). The resulting advertising processing relies on that same consent, under Article 6(1)(a) of the General Data Protection Regulation. You can withdraw your consent at any time, as easily as you gave it, from the Manage my consent page.
If you decline. Google then shows so-called limited ads: no advertising cookie is stored, no data is passed to bidders and the ads are not personalized. The site remains fully usable, with no restriction, no quota and no paid version.
The partners. The consent window lists, vendor by vendor, the companies that may receive this data and the purpose of each, and lets you accept or refuse them one by one. The list kept by Google is published at support.google.com/admanager/answer/9012903 (new tab).
Retention periods. The advertising cookies stored by Google last thirteen months at most. Your choice is kept for a limited period, after which you are asked again. Cookie-by-cookie details are available in the consent window.
Transfer outside the European Union. Google Ireland Limited transfers data to its parent company Google LLC, in the United States. This transfer relies on the European Commission’s adequacy decision of July 10, 2023 on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, supplemented by the standard contractual clauses.
What advertising never touches. No information taken from a file you drop here is passed to the ad network, or to anyone else. The content of your files has never left your device, so advertising cannot know anything about it.
If you write to us
The site contains no form. If you write to contact@wizefile.com, we receive your email address, your message and anything you attach to it.
They are used only to reply to you and handle your request, for example to fix a bug you report. They are not sold, nor used to write to you about anything else. Legal basis: the publisher’s legitimate interest in replying to the messages it receives.
They are kept for as long as it takes to handle your request, then for at most three years after our last exchange. Messages are received in a Gmail mailbox, hosted by Google, which may process them in the United States under the transfer framework described above.
Data controller
Controller: Corentin Duvillard, sole trader (entrepreneur individuel), 80 rue des Fontaines, 77400 Thorigny-sur-Marne, France (see the legal notice)
Contact: contact@wizefile.com
For advertising, the publisher and Google Ireland Limited are joint controllers for the presence of the ad code on these pages and the collection it enables. Google Ireland Limited is solely responsible for how it then uses that data, as described in its policy, available at policies.google.com/privacy (new tab).
Your rights
The General Data Protection Regulation gives you the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, object to and port the personal data concerning you, as well as the right to withdraw a consent you have given at any time.
In practice, the site holds no account and no browsing history. A request can therefore concern three things. Your messages, if you wrote to us, to be requested at the address below. The host’s technical logs, to be requested from Cloudflare. And the advertising data, if you accepted advertising, to be requested from Google, which decides how it is used, at policies.google.com/privacy (new tab).
To exercise a right, write to contact@wizefile.com. You can also lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority, at cnil.fr/fr/plaintes (new tab).
Minors
The site asks for no personal information and is not aimed specifically at minors. No profiling takes place, except where applicable for advertising you have accepted. In France, a minor under fifteen cannot accept personalized advertising alone: a parent’s consent is required. Declining it changes nothing about how the site works.
Changes
This policy is updated whenever something actually changes: advertising going live, an audience measurement tool being added, a change of host or of email service. The date below shows the latest version. This English version is provided for convenience: if it differs from the French version, the French version prevails.
