How it works

A PDF’s size almost always comes from its images. The tool pulls them out of the document, re-encodes them lighter, then puts them back in place. A document without images has almost nothing to gain. The text, fonts and file structure are never touched: your document stays selectable, searchable and readable by a screen reader.

How much size you save

It depends entirely on the document. A PDF with photos or scanned pages often loses 25 to 65% of its size. A text document exported from Word will gain almost nothing, because its size comes from its fonts, not its images.

The three levels

Light keeps print quality; it’s made for a document you are going to print or archive. Balanced is the right compromise for sending a file by email. Maximum shrinks the images hard.
