How it works
Drop your document: its pages appear one by one. Pick a tool, then click or drag on the page to place text, a rectangle, an ellipse, a line, an arrow or a highlight. An image is added with the “Image” button, then placed and resized with the mouse. Every action can be undone, and nothing leaves your browser.
When you save, what you placed is added on top of the pages, exactly where you saw it. The original content is neither redrawn nor recompressed: the document’s text stays selectable and its images keep their quality.
What the tool doesn’t do
It doesn’t change the text already in the document. A PDF often embeds only the letters it needs: a rewritten word would hit missing letters and display badly. To fix a word, place a filled white rectangle over it, then write the right word on top.
Be careful, this rectangle hides the word from the eye but deletes nothing: the original word stays in the file, and turns up in a search or a copy-paste. To remove information for good, use redact a PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Is my file sent anywhere? No. You can check for yourself in thirty seconds: here is how.
Does the text I add stay text? Yes. It is saved as real text: it can be selected, copied and found by a search. Letters outside the Latin alphabet, Greek or Cyrillic for example, are written in a font that knows them.
Can I change a word already in the PDF? Not directly. Cover it with a filled white rectangle, then write the new word on top. The original word stays in the file: to really delete it, use redact a PDF.
What about password-protected PDFs? A PDF that opens without a password but blocks printing or copying is accepted as it is. If it takes a password to open, go through unlock a PDF first, if you know it.
