The repair keeps everything that can still be read, then falls back on what can still be displayed.

How it works
A PDF that “won’t open anymore” has most often lost its table of contents: the table that says where each page sits in the file. An interrupted download, a copy cut short or software that saves badly is enough. The pages themselves are often still there.
The tool reads the file from end to end, object by object, without trusting its table. It keeps everything that can still be read, finds the document’s page list or rebuilds it from the pages it found, then writes a new PDF with a correct table. The text, fonts and images of the pages are kept.
What can be lost
Bookmarks and forms live outside the pages: when the file is badly damaged, they may not come back. When the rebuild returns no page, a last resort redraws as an image every page the reader can still display: the document can be read again, but its text is no longer selectable. The summary always says which method worked.
When no page is readable, the tool says so: a file whose pages themselves have disappeared can’t be repaired, whatever the software.
Frequently asked questions
Is my file sent anywhere? No. You can check for yourself in thirty seconds: here is how.
Is my original document changed? No. The tool makes a repaired copy, your file stays as it is on your device.
What if my PDF wasn’t damaged? It is read and rewritten identically, and the summary says so. This can also fix a document that some software read badly without any visible error.
What about password-protected PDFs? A PDF that opens without a password but blocks printing or copying is accepted as it is. If it takes a password to open, go through unlock a PDF first, if you know it.
