What this tool does and doesn’t do
It places the image of your signature on the page you choose. It’s the digital equivalent of a scanned handwritten signature, and it’s what most quotes, leases, certificates and letters ask for.
This is not an electronic signature within the meaning of the eIDAS regulation. That kind relies on a certificate issued by a trusted third party: it proves your identity and seals the document against any later change. No free, account-free tool can provide it, here or anywhere else.
Why your signature shouldn’t leave your phoneyour tabletyour computer
A handwritten signature is biometric data. Uploading it to a server, which all comparable tools do, has far heavier consequences than uploading the document itself: a document goes out of date, a signature follows you for life.
Here, it is drawn in your browser and never leaves it. Nothing is saved, not even in your browser.
Draw or import
With a finger or the mouse. The stroke is smoothed so it doesn’t come out jagged. On a phone or tablet, a finger often gives a better result than a mouse.
From a photo. Sign on a white sheet of paper, take a photo of it, drop it in. The background is removed automatically: the tool makes everything lighter than a threshold transparent, based on brightness rather than on a color.
A note about documents sent back to you
If you receive a document that is already signed and you are asked to add your signature, do it on the file exactly as it was sent to you, without running it through another tool. Each extra pass risks altering what the first signer placed.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files sent anywhere? No. You can check for yourself in thirty seconds: here is how.
Is my signature saved anywhere? No, nowhere, not even in your browser. It lives as long as the page does and disappears when you reload it.
Does this signature have legal value? It has the value of a scanned handwritten signature, which is enough for most everyday documents. It doesn’t have the value of a qualified electronic signature, which requires a certificate issued by a trusted third party.
Can I sign several pages of the same document? Yes. Place your signature, choose another page, and do it again. Each placement adds to the previous ones.
What about password-protected PDFs? A PDF that opens without a password but forbids printing or copying is accepted as it is. If it needs a password to open, go through unlock a PDF first, if you know it: the document comes out intact.
