How it works
The tool opens your document and redraws each page as a PDF reader would, then saves the result as a JPG or a PNG. One page gives one image, in the document’s order, with a number in the file name so the folder sorts itself.
JPG or PNG, which to choose
JPG suits almost everything: pages with photos, scans, documents to send or publish. The files are much lighter.
PNG keeps every pixel exactly as it was drawn, with no loss. It’s the right choice for a chart, a diagram or fine text you’ll enlarge later. On the other hand, the files are often three to five times heavier.
Which resolution
Screen produces light images, made to be viewed on a screen or inserted in a presentation. Normal is the usual setting, readable and reasonable in size. High goes up to 300 dots per inch, the resolution expected for quality printing, and gives much heavier files.
What you lose by converting
The text stops being text. It can no longer be selected, searched or copied, and a screen reader can no longer read it.
If your goal is simply to make a PDF lighter or to send part of it, converting to images is not the right tool. Use compression or page extraction instead, which keep the document intact.
Frequently asked questions
Is my file sent anywhere? No. You can check for yourself in thirty seconds: here is how.
How do I get all the pages at once? The download-all button gathers all the images into a zip archive, also made on your phoneyour tabletyour computer.
How long does it take? Allow about one second per page at normal resolution, a little more at high. A ten-page document is converted in about ten seconds. You can switch tabs during processing; it keeps going.
Can I convert several PDFs in a row? Yes, as many as you like, with no limit on number. Each image’s name takes after its original document, so the files don’t get mixed up.
What about password-protected PDFs? A PDF that opens without a password but forbids printing or copying is accepted as it is. If it needs a password to open, go through unlock a PDF first, if you know it: the document comes out intact.
